Photo shoot ideas

I looked back through and couldn't find a similar post, so I thought I'd see what y'all think...

Okay, so I know that we all complain that none of the photo shoots are functional anymore, and the chances of a model in the real world ever doing a shoot like one from ANTM are slim. So I ask this question:

What ideas do you have for photo shoots? They can be funny, serious, whatever. But what ideas do you have that you think are better than Tyra & Co.?

I had an idea that they could put the models in rooms that were completely one color (one green room, one blue room, one red room, etc), dress the models in clothes that match the room, and see who can stand out the best.

I would like to see a soot of them just trying to seel real clothing. Something that could be in a magazine like Vogue. Remember Nicole L's spread in the magazine she won? It was just her, a grey background and cute clothing. Let's try something like that.

To me, they should just stop having 'themes' for photoshoots and just put them in a setting, nice clothes or some sort of prop and have them work that. When they give the girls specific themes, they start picking on how they should fit that theme and not their modeling of the clothes. They have started to get rid of some of that this season...but I get annoyed when they assign girls random 'themes' for their shoot, like the music genre ones or the homeless ones. They didn't even look homeless, it almost looked insulting. Should have been just 'oh, here we're shooting in this alley, WORK'.

Do I make sense? lol

Please, please please Tyra, bring back the beauty shots. I mean normal beauty shots like the ones from cycles 2 and 3. They can have edgy hair and makeup or try and have a more commercial look, but I NEED MORE BEAUTY SHOTS IN MY LIFE.

How about a shot where they are standing on top of a speeding train, and feral cats are climbing up their bodies while birds fly overhead and poop on them, with ice cubes in their underwear and fleas all over their body?
Cause, you know, that recreates a realistic scenario Tyra has had to face.

Word, that happens to me ALL THE TIME and you know, you just gotta work it.

I like the idea of more beauty shots and realistic photo shoots. For example, the one from (cycle 6?) which was on a farm, it was the ebony that Ebony was eliminated.

also this photo shoot was hot.

Gah, the good ol' days of cycle II.

I would like to see a realistic editorial. A set that doesn't overwhelm the model, and no gimmicks.

Tyra, if youre reading this, take note:

I want to see something epic. Like, gone with the wind ms.scarlett rhett butler epic.

I want to see the girls do an haute couture shoot. And when I use the term haute couture, in my mind I see Dior's 60th anniversary show. If any of you saw that, you know what Im sayin. It was epic! I want girls in gorgeous gowns posing in late 1800s/early 1900s mansions. I was classy! And I want them to show off the fucking clothes. Who cares about the face. FASHION IS ABOUT THE CLOTHES. And if you need a photo reference:

How amazing with Fatima or Anya, hell even whitney, look in one of these!
Raquel Zimmerman, Helena Christensen, Angela Lindvall,Amber Valletta, Sasha Pivovarova, Karen Mulder, Linda Evangelista, Shamlow Harlow, Naomi Campbell.

Wouldnt that be a treat!
Apr. 9th, 2008 06:47 pm (UTC)
Whoops. thats supposed to say I want classy

well i think they are keeping thier audience in mind.. the target age range is probably between 14 and early twenties.. i really doubt that most of these would be interested in seeing photoshoots the way they *actually* happen. the themes are entertaining to watch.

and come on, none of these girls are actually gonna end up in paris doing a dior show. i think the most successful one was probably adrianne, and she had vh1 help her along a lot with shows like the surreal life and my fair brady.
Apr. 9th, 2008 08:37 pm (UTC)
they didn't have those crazy themes in cycles 1-3, and their target audience was probably the same then as it is now...

plus, I would say the most successful model is Elyse (also from cycle 1), she did it ON HER OWN (no help from VH1 or any other source besides ANTM) and she is IT in Asia right now, has been for a couple years...

i dont think Adrienne can even be considered successful as a model...famous maybe, popular sure, but not successful as a model.

don't get me wrong, I <3 Adrienne, but Elyse > Adrienne all the way!

I had a dream last night they were paired with male models and had to evoke the shapes of different objects. Adrienne Curry was there and her shape was the arch of a tandem bike. It was a gorgeous shot, BTW, even if I never have been a big fan of hers.

Hahaha, dreams are a funny thing.

hmm i might be one of the only ones but i like the b&w shoots that tyra does herself. i didn't like the freaky contacts one too much but the one in c5 with the vaseline was cool. and the c1 one was gorgeous as well. so more of those shoots, if you have time for it tyra. i know you don't even have time to do the episode recaps at the beginning of the next episode and you hired a very good sound-a-like. ;)

i agree with more beauty shots. i reaaaaaaally liked the paint one this cycle but more normal ones would be good too. normal = not putting stupid spinning wigs on the girls, k.

i would love to see a film noiresque shoot. i think that would be right up tyra's alley since she likes those themes. but i wouldn't give the girls different characters. just dress them up like film noir femme fatales and have them look suspicious and sinister. and sell clothes. *nod*

see i like the "themes" as long as the girls are all given the same theme. like i really liked the second shoot from cycle 5 when they were all on a ranch. most of those shots were gorgeous and it looked like something that i have seen before in a fashion magazine. admittedly i don't look at or read fashion magazines often at all. only like, in waiting rooms at doctors offices, hah.

That film noir-esque shoot sounds AMAZING. I agree. :> That would be an amazing shoot.

Before judging, they show a picture of Tyra on a similar shoot. Are those old pictures of her that she really did a shoot for or are they recent and done to indulge her craziness? I don't really have suggestions for shoots, although I like partner (or team) shoots and the more realistic the better, IMO.

Apr. 9th, 2008 07:36 pm (UTC)
The pictures from the first couple of cycles (I'm positive 1 and 2, maybe cycles 3 and 4, too?) were old Tyra photos. Now, they're all new photos taken especially for the specific shoot.

I like when they did the "green" shoots.

They could portray famous women in history?
or disney princesses! (thats just my dream....sorry)

or do a shoot for redbull where they get "wings" and fly in the air.
covergirls in space anyone?

Different eras in US history? 20's, 40's (rosie!) 50's, etc
Apr. 9th, 2008 07:51 pm (UTC)
I like the idea of different eras in U.S. History.

Decades shoot definetly. They should have fashion from the 20's to the 90's with each girl representing a decade. It would have to be very editorial, cause if it was commercial it would look too campy, especcially for 70's and 80's.

Apr. 9th, 2008 07:58 pm (UTC)
Another possible shoot that I thought of is a bit of a (more high fashion, less ridiculous) twist on the shoot from Cycle 8 where they all dressed up as men. The girls could dress in a Marlene Dietrich style - suit pants and such - and try to pose more "masculine." I think it would look really good if the shots were done in black and white. Maybe they could even pose with a very feminine female model (not effing drag queens, god Tyra).

I think they should do a Gustav Klimt theme. It would seriously be fantastic. I'd like to see that in a magazine. His work is perfect for it.

How about something eerie like the girls as robots with like bolts and they kinda look metal but make it creepy and huanting... idk I'm weird. They could be like in a laboratory. I'm stupid.

They do a phobia shoot, each girl tells her phobia and then they make them act it out.

My television will need its own box of tissues for the fearful crying that it will envoke.

Tim Burton-esque shoot, sort of like a real life Nightmare Before Christmas... you know, one that Heather would have owned without even trying. (Yar, I am a Heather fan. :D)
Apr. 10th, 2008 04:46 am (UTC)
UHHH YEAH that would be so beautiful (with heather) that my head almost exploded. And Helena Bonham Carter could come in and be their coach on how to be creepy-hot.
Apr. 9th, 2008 10:02 pm (UTC)
More beauty shots! And more B&W.

I would love to see more shoots with animals, and more with body paints and stuff like that. I loved it when they did the catalog shoot with whatever season where they had to do little adds where they dressed up for each season.
Apr. 9th, 2008 10:05 pm (UTC)
I just want less photoshop fiddling and cheesy effects. Sometimes they make a perfectly good concept look terrible by going overboard with throwing crazy-ass filters onto it. (e.g. Chinese dragons shoot)

I personally would like to see something more natural and simple, like a shoot where the girls are photographed doing early morning rituals but with an editorial aesthetic. Perhaps in grainy b&w or muted colours, morning half-light, and features clothing, cosmetics and any other products relating to what activity they're doing. And yeah, I'll admit to (dorkily) entertaining the idea that a photoshoot like this can make the girls be more aware of their bodies and the different ways to approach modeling when they're put into a situation that should be familiar to them but comes with expectations to look good doing so, but then I think that may be a little TOO much to ask from amateur models.
Apr. 9th, 2008 10:20 pm (UTC)
That really sounds lovely.
Apr. 9th, 2008 11:09 pm (UTC)
I loved the ones on the Top Model from another country where one model was dressed more masculine and the other feminine and they had to pose together with sexy results.
Apr. 10th, 2008 06:14 pm (UTC)
Didn't they do one where the girls dressed up as a male and then a female and had to pose "together"? Sort of the like the alter-ego shoot when Tocarra freaked out about the clothes not fitting her.

Here are my ideas, I'm not sure if these have been used before, I haven't watched all of the cycles.

- Posing like if they were in famous paintings
- Each model posing in clothes from different historic eras (Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, etc...)
- Masquerade
- Broadway Musicals
- Egyptian Queens
- Gypsies
- Can-Can dancers

Apr. 10th, 2008 01:30 pm (UTC)
They did the paintings thing in C5. It wasn't very good.
